To answer your second question: out of respect for the fine folks who spend their time meticulously reviewing every submission we receive, we ask that you only submit if you're serious about accepting the agreement if selected. We leave it to your judgment (we really have no way to enforce it after all), but in most cases that means no, please do not submit work here if you are also waiting on a response from another publisher.

Hi James,

Generally, no. We do not accept previously published work.

However, we do make exceptions, especially if the first publication was very small or localized, like a community or college magazine/newspaper, local writers' group's compiled work, writers' website, etc.

Please feel free to contact us at info@columbuscoop.org with the details of what you'd like to submit and when and where it was previously published, and we'll let you know if we can make an exception.

Will you consider previously published stories?
Will you consider simultaneous submissions (i.e., stories being sent to other publications in addition to your anthology)?

Thanks.

Hey Tammy,

We'd love to have you, but unless you lived with your brother (or at least claimed his address), there's no osmosis credit. :-)

Most of our projects don't have this strict of a limitation though, so be sure to check back for other stuff.

Hey CCC,

My brother and sister-in-law lived in Chagrin Falls, Ohio for years and years. He had a research lab at Case Western and she helped develop doctor training programs. Do I get any credit for 'sibling osmosis'? I would love to enter.

[...] Recently, Paging Columbus proudly participated in the literary division of the Columbus Invitational Arts Competition. Literary groups were asked to submit a piece of writing (prose) from one of their members. The story we chose to submit was “Winter Break-In,” by Emily Taylor, and it won first place. You can read and enjoy it here. [...]
